Can you briefly introduce yourself and your TTC journey?
My name is Katie. I am pregnant with my first and only baby. It's a girl! It took me and my husband 3+ years of IVF treatments to conceive her. 5 rounds, 2 surgeries on my husband, 1 miscarriage and lots of tears! I have 1 fallopian tube and endometriosis. Upon meeting my husband I came to find he had a severely low sperm count (later to discover zero) IVF was harder than I had imagined it to be. "All the things doctors can do today" people would say to me - as if someone would wave a wind over me and I would become pregnant. I thought it was a good option and I could wait into my 30s no big deal. Yes.. big deal! I went through a roller coaster of emotions and somehow have come out the other side still married!
Our last round we were able to have my husbands sperm surgically removed the same day they retrieved my eggs for a fresh IVF cycle. Hanging on to what hope we had left ...it worked!!

Why do you want to be a mom?
For me it is against nature for me not to have that chance. It is well known by anyone that knows me that I have wanted to be a mom since I was a little kid! I have been very vocal about this. This also made our infertility struggle a bit tougher since many people felt so sad for me knowing my hearts true desires.
How did you start trying to conceive? Did you try ovulation monitoring?
I knew that I would have to go to an infertility specialist before we started trying. Knowing my husbands issues as well we skipped right to IVF rounds with ICSI. We definably tried on our own prior but knew it would be happening in an office.

How long did it take for you to decide to do IVF? What were the decision-making factors?
There was no decision. If we wanted to have kids we had to do IVF. Finding out my husband had Zero sperm, the Doctors had to surgically remove his sperm and freeze it. We used this for our first rounds. Insurance is a funny thing that we were unable to line up a fresh round then.

Can you describe you and your husband’s emotion and behavior when you knew you were pregnant?
He is my Rock. Honestly he was calm and helped me take it day at a time. We had suffered a miscarriage at 12 weeks with our first round and it just completely devastated us. We had heard the heart beat and had multiple ultrasounds. I fell into a deep depression for some time. After 3 more failed rounds in between it was hard to jump up and down that it was really happening. We were scared! We just wanted her to stick so badly that we were afraid to be exited.
Anything you want to say to your baby?
Your dad and I have wanted you long before you were conceived. We would take long walks and talk about you and what life will be like when you are with us. We never gave up on the thought of you and now that you are real, we will always be here for you! You are desired and loved and always will be.
