Are you trying to get pregnant? Knowing your fertility cycle will help you to be more familiar with how and when you could conceive. Your menstrual cycle defines your fertility cycle, so pay attention to how long your period lasts and the duration between your periods.

Ovulation

Generally, your most fertile period is the day you ovulate and the five days that lead to it. This is usually between 12 and 16 days before your period begins, which is roughly halfway between periods. It is important that you identify your own individual time of fertility.

Your body will give you signs which will tell you if you are ovulating. These signs could come in the form of abdominal cramps, acne, pimples, and a high basal body temperature. Your hormones are on full swing while you are ovulating.

The process of ovulation is typically but not always part of your menstrual cycle. It occurs when a mature ovarian follicle releases an egg which then travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus where it will lay in to become fertilized. The entire process is controlled by two hormones – luteinizing hormone and the follicle-stimulating hormone. Some women ovulate monthly while others every few months.

How to detect ovulation?

You can identify when you are ovulating using detection kits such as the KNOWHEN® Saliva Ovulation Test. It is a small handheld microscope that helps you monitor your ovulation using only just a drop of your saliva. The KNOWHEN® Test is known to be over 98% accurate, completely reusable for years, and you can track your daily-test results using their smartphone application with a built-in calendar. Knowledge of your fertile period will help you plan your sexual activity for the coming weeks with more ease.

If you have sexual intercourse in the days that lead up to your ovulation as well as on the day you ovulate, your chances of becoming pregnant are dramatically heightened. Your chances of fertilization go up by 27-33%. You need to have identified your individual fertility window and calculate the days when you will be most fertile. Time your intercourse during those days to ensure a much higher probability of conception. Do not forget to track your cycle everyday using the KNOWHEN® Saliva Ovulation Test kit. If you have an average 28-day menstrual cycle, you can expect your day of ovulation to occur around the 14th day. The most fertile days during a cycle like this are 12, 13, and 14. If your cycle is longer or shorter, make sure to calculate your fertile period accurately so you do not hamper your chances of becoming pregnant.
